John Lovezzola's Ride

Why I'm Riding in the 2011 PMC ...

Every day, 35 kids are diagnosed with cancer in the US.  Each year, 2300 will die.  I'm fortunate to be a friend of 2 great families who each have unfortunately lost a child to cancer.  These facts are the reason I'll be riding in my 2nd PMC this year.  I'll be riding with friends 85 miles from Wellesley to Bourne  for kids everywhere fighting cancer. I'm a member of the Pedals for Pediatrics (P4P) team which means all of the funds that my teammates and I raise will be directed to the pediatric oncology program of Children’s Hospital-Boston, which is affiliated with Dana-Farber, and will directly benefit patients and families by providing program support, direct financial assistance and research. Examples range from buying state-of-the-art genetic test equipment to a washer-dryer installed in the hospital for families to use while their children are being treated.

The strongest memory I have from last year was listening to real-life stories from those who's lives have been directly affected by cancer and realizing how important this event is to so many people.  I'm looking forward to another great experience.
