Why I Ride ...

To My Friends, Old and New

This is a very special year for me for a couple of reasons.  First, this will be my 5th PanMassChallange (PMC) ride.  I really cannot believe it!  It will occur on August 6th and 7th   for a total of 165 miles.  I remember the first year and how nervous I was about riding.  I want to extend a heartfelt thanks to all of you who have supported me over the years and welcome those who may be donating for the first time.  Secondly, my oldest son is getting married to a wonderful woman this month and I am very excited!

As in previous years, my patients motivate me to ride.  All of what you go through, the pain and the joy keep me going when I am hot, tired or this year cold.  This year, a very special friend was diagnosed with cancer.  Like many of you, she will go through the rigorous treatments for cancer and being a friend of hers, it hits closer to home.  She shows incredible strength, courage and a positive attitude despite her diagnosis and treatment.  My friend is the type of person, that no matter who you are, she makes you feel special.

So I ride to find a cure for this terrible disease.  The team I ride with, Team Perry, donates the money we raise to cancer research geared at finding ways to target the different cancers molecular markers, genetic markers and growth pathways.  By focusing on these areas, we have been able to find chemotherapy agents that target cancers more effectively.  This subsequently offers longer life spans and for some a cure.  We have made great strides but more needs to be done.

I understand that the economic times are difficult for some but I ask you to consider what you can.  Any amount is appreciated greatly.  You may send your donation in the enclosed envelope or donate on line.  If you choose on line, go to PMC.org and on the home page click on Egifts (on left side of page).  My Egift code is JL0205.  Follow the instructions from there.

In advance I thank you for considering a donation for my 5th PMC ride.  I will continue to ride to find a cure for my friends and patients.  I am grateful that I am able to do something I enjoy and have it be so beneficial to many.

Have a great summer and look for me on TV this August.

Thank You

Jean
