Jim Hanifin's Ride

Why I Ride ...

Most of us have been or will be touched in some way by cancer.  Just imagine if we could one day defeat this terrible disease.  Would you like to make a difference?

In August 2011, I will participate in my first Pan-Massachusetts Challenge by cycling 180 miles over two days from Sturbridge to Bourne and Bourne to Wellesley.  Donations to my PMC ride will help support cancer research and treatment at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston.

For many years, I have supported friends riding in the PMC.  I have always been moved by their unwavering dedication and stories of inspiration for taking on the challenge of the PMC.

I will be riding as a member of Team Xaverian whose funds are directed to support the Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Outcomes program within Dana-Farber.  This program focuses on the long term needs of pediatric brain cancer survivors.  Team Xaverian has raised almost $150,000, including $56,000 in 2010, for Dana-Farber.

On a personal level, I dedicate my ride to my brother Bob who is battling colon and kidney cancer with the help of Dana-Farber.  His tremendous strength, courage and spirit are an inspiration to me for taking on this challenge and riding for the cause.  I also ride in honor of family members, friends and colleagues who have fought or continue to fight cancer... for Kathy M, Robert H, John M, Johnny K, Tommy F, Lenny N, Helen P, Greg K, Chris M, Maryanne T, Mike P, Billy R.

Together we can make a difference in the battle against cancer… me with my bike and you through your generous donation.

Thank you for joining and supporting me in this challenge.
