Why I Ride ...For Dottie, Sue and Kathy

Dear Family and Friends,

It is summer time and I'm back in the Pan Mass Challenge (PMC) bike saddle again, second year running, for the 190 mile ride from Wellesley to Provincetown, August 6-7,  the largest single fundraiser for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston.  Once again I need your help and prayers and financial support.  My goal this year is to raise $5000 and in 2011 I’m riding in honor of three wonderful women who have been affected by cancer.

I’m riding for Dottie Quinn, a member of my church who last January died from ovarian cancer after a three year struggle.  Dottie was amazing high school teacher, a great Mom, loving wife and a good soul.  I miss her.

I’m riding for one of my dearest friends and mentors, an amazing woman named Susan Dickerman. Sue has been a part of my life since I was fifteen when she was my church youth group advisor!  She walked with me, taught me and lifted me up.  This year Sue faced and overcame bladder cancer through the amazing resources at the Dana Farber.

I’m riding for my cousin Kathy Norton who is facing colon cancer.  A woman of deep faith and courage, a wonderful Mom and wife, Kathy is in the midst of a very, very tough battle. I ride for her as a rolling prayer and in hope.

The PMC holds the promise of helping to eradicate cancer and is the Dana Farber’s single largest contributor.  100 percent of your gift will go directly to the cause.

So--won't your ride with me and these three amazing woman? Donate right here online or if you prefer to write a check, please make it out to the PMC, The Jimmy Fund or Dana Farber Cancer Institute and mail them to me at 14 Lamplighter Lane, Sherborn, MA 01770 by 8/2.

I thank you. Everyone who faces cancer and receives world class treatment at the Dana Farber is grateful for any help you might offer.  The PMC reminds me that life is precious, life is short, life is a miraculous gift from God and a good life, a really good life, is marked by how much we give to others. I ride for and with Dottie, Sue and Kathy.  I hope you will ride with me too!

Peace,         John Hudson

PS: apologies if you receive more than one email or postcard appeal from me: just trying to cover all my bases!
