Janet Fischer's Ride

Why I am Riding in my 3rd PMC...

It is now time for me to get serious about my training for my third PMC (Wellesley loop), on August 2nd. I was encouraged, just recently, to hear news coming out of Dana Farber, about PARP inhibitors being used to treat breast and ovarian cancers. These cancers claimed the lives of my dear friends Maryellen and Judy, and I have ridden in their memory these last two years. Their struggles changed the way I think about many things, and they continue to inspire me. I have affixed stickers with their names to my bike helmet. I must add two more stickers this year, bearing the names of my uncles, Neal and Robert. Both bravely battled lung cancer, and it was hard to ultimately lose them to that dreadful disease. These four people are very special to me, just as every rider and volunteer has their own special people. May this be the year that a real breakthrough takes place in our war on cancer. Fight on...RIDE ON!
