Why I Ride ...
For two years I had ridden in the Pan Mass Challenge because the disease attacked a couple of my very good friends. It is a horrible illness and not being a scientist or medical doctor, I wanted to do something, anything, to help in the fight. I didn't want to lose these wonderful people.
Last year cancer became personal. On my 43rd birthday my father informed me he was diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer. He died on Monday, March 14, 2011. My dad was a 23-year veteran of the US Air Force. I found myself looking on at his military burial-- a flag covered his casket and shots were fired into the air to salute his service. Riding is my way of honoring him.
