Jeanne Baker's Ride
Why I Ride ...
This is my first year riding in the Pan Mass Challenge, with the team, Pedals For Pediatrics. I am excited to be involved in such a worthy cause that has great personal meaning to me. I am riding in memory and honor of my niece, Maddie Savoie.
Maddie was eight years old in August of 2006 when she was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer called Ewings Sarcoma. For the next two years, she endured intensive chemotherapy and radiation treatment at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Children’s Hospital Boston. Throughout this painful and frightening process, Maddie never lost her positive attitude, playful humor and heartwarming smile. Through her strength, courage and selflessness, she inspired thousands of people to overcome their challenges and live life to the fullest. Maddie was a shining example of what it truly means to live life with faith, hope, love and happiness.
Despite her courageous fight against cancer, Maddie passed away on
I hope and pray that my ride and effort to raise money for Pedals for Pediatrics will make Maddie as proud of me as I am of her. The money our team raises not only goes towards research, but just as importantly, will go to tangible items, directly helping other children and families on an everyday basis throughout their struggle. Monies will go directly to the floors where Maddie was treated. Toys for the playroom, resources for the Resource Room, parking vouchers and meal vouchers for families - tangible items.
