Greg White's Ride

I Ride for my Bride

When I was in elementary school my late father was diagnosed with lung cancer. He survived it for many years although he suffered with numerous related lung problems. This helped form my rabid anti smoking views.

More recently my wife, Amie, beat cancer in 2006. We successfully completed our first PMC ride in 2007, less than a year after her last chemo treatment.  2008 brought us through our second PMC and into the devastating news that her cancer had come back.  In 2009 we conquered our third PMC less than a month after Amie’s last chemo treatment.  Last year we celebrated Amie’s birthday on Sunday of the PMC ride; A Cancer free and chemo free birthday, nothing could have been better than that.

2011; Here we go again.
Amie is back in treatment for the third time.  This year her birthday will be the Monday after the ride.  For us, participating  the PMC is a symbol of our determination to control our own destiny and to fight this with all of our strength.  A change in her treatment this year has her at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, the beneficiary of the PMC and all of our fundraising.  We don't yet know the full effect this year's treatment will have on Amie and her ability to do the ride, but we do know that we will put every possible effort into training and completing this year's ride.  We also know that the money we raise will directly benefit the amazing, life saving, cutting edge, futuristic research and treatment she will receive at the Dana Farber.

I continue to do the ride in honor of my bride, in memory of my father, and in the hope that one day this war will be won, both on a personal level as well as a global level.  And it is one hell of a fun and life changing weekend!  I remember during that first year, and every year since, riding through August heat being so moved by the countless thousands of cheering spectators and their numerous methods of showing their support and expressing their thanks that I often said “Real men don’t cry; I am sweating out my eyeballs.”  If you want to be more involved but can’t join team Pedal 2 the Mettle on the ride, consider coming out and cheering on all of the riders on August 7th and 8th.

Thank you for visiting my site and thank you for sponsoring my ride!  Every donation, no matter the size is very greatly appreciated.

With Love,

Greg
