Gerald Cote's Ride

Why I Ride ...

To My Family and Friends:

I want to thank you for your generous donations in support of my ride last year (2010). Because of you I raised $4,200 for cancer research. This will be my 6th year riding in the PMC.

This year I will have the pleasure of riding with our daughter Aimee, Dan,Erik,Erich and Matt. We are all members of team "HELP".

We meet many people along the route. Especially at rest stops. Everyone has a reason for riding in the PMC. One rider's story told to Aimee and me has remained in my thoughts for a long time now. A young man we met at a water stop had a picture pinned to the back of his jersey. Many of us wear pictures of loved ones .He had a picture of a little girl. We asked him about the little girl''s picture. He told us his niece had met two new friends. They didn't meet in school or on a soccer field. They met at the Dana Farber where they were all being treated for cancer. We asked him how the girls were doing. He told us that two of the girls had died. We told him the picture of his niece pinned to his jersey was very nice. He told us his niece was one of the girls that died. The picture on his back was the little girl that was still surviving. He was riding for her. We didn't exchange e-mails or phone numbers so I can't tell you how the last little girl is doing. I like to think she is doing well.

The picture you see is my sister Pauline and my brother-in-law Vinny. Ever since Pauline died of cancer, Vinny spends his days
helping his kids with home improvement projects, yard work and enjoying his grand kids. He can fill his days all right but I know he spends many long sleepless nights without Pauline by his side.

Each year I list the names of family and friends who have died of cancer. This year I want to share a picture of these beautiful people with you. Please visit my photo gallery.

Coley Petrucci 3 years old. Coley's family are friends of our daughter Aimee. No one should loose a child to cancer.

Andrew DeLuca 6 years old. A friend of our grandson Kyle. This year Kyle will be riding in his 7th kids PMC in Andrews memory

Eric Neilsen 19 years old. The nephew of my coworker Laura. Laura kept me up to date during Eric's battle with cancer. We cried together when she told me of his passing.

Megan Echardt 24 years old. The neice of my coworker Jeff. Megan was fighting cancer during our ride last year. Our whole team  was pulling for her. Jeff told me that Megan died Easter Sunday morning of last year. The picture is of Megan and her husband Peter. Peter is studying to be a minister.

Lisa Najemy 35 years old. The wife of my friend and team mate Dan. Pictured are Lisa, Dan, daughter Emily and twins Matt and
Ryan. Lisa died a year after this picture was taken. Lisa would be proud of they way Dan is raising their children. We are.

John Gregory 72 years old. A long time friend and fellow motorcycle rider. We spent many hours on the road together. I got a call from his wife Jeanne telling me he died of cancer. When we couldn't see each other we stayed in touch via e-mail. He never told me he was fighting cancer.

I am sure you can see why I am riding the PMC again this year. Please support my ride with a donation. Your good health and the good health of your family is important to me.
