Donna Kleinman's Ride
2011 - my eleventh PMC
Dear Friends and Family,
Thank you for taking the time to read my story.
The PMC( founded in 1980) is the largest, most successful sports fundraising event in the world, attracting 5,000 riders and 2,500 volunteers to central and south-east Massachusetts for a two-day cycling event in August each year.
Cyclists will travel from 36 states and eight countries to ride in the PMC this year. More than 300 riders will be cancer survivors or current patients. Cyclists range in age from 13 to 83. The average PMC cyclist is 43 years old, trains for three months, solicits 40 sponsors, and raises more than $6,000. During PMC weekend and throughout the year, 3,000 volunteers donate their time and 200 corporations provide in-kind donations of products or services.
The PMC hope to raise $ 34 million this year ...and I am asking for your help.
This August will be my 11th PMC. And every year when January rolls around and the PMC sends an email letting alumni know it is time to register.. I think how can I do it again? The ride is not the hard part, what is hard is asking for your help. This tough economy, higher prices at the pump...we all are being pinched and stretched. However, if you think about it you must know someone who is alive and has beat the big dreaded C .. I do..several actually, living vibrant full lives when many years ago they might not be.
I cannot cure cancer, nor can I prevent any of my or your loved ones from hearing that dreadful diagnosis. But what I can do...is ride . When someone you love has cancer, you feel like there is nothing you can do to help them..doing the PMC is my way of helping and giving back.
Donations of $ 100 or more will recieve a batch of homemade chocolate chip cookies, delivered fresh to you !
Feel free to browse the photos here, they capture the spirit of the PMC.
