A personal detour, on my way to the 2012 PMC
After 10 years of cycling the PMC, eight of them as Captain of Team ASPS, it looks like I will be limited to a "virtual ride" this year, as I'll still be recovering from treatment for bladder cancer. Instead of riding this year, I'll settle for being able to greet the team at the PMC finish line. I am fortunate that I am being treated at Dana Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI). After chemo, my surgery will be next door, at Brigham and Women's Hospital. Each time I visit DFCI, I am reminded of the contribution that the PMC has made to cancer care and research.
Our team rides in honor of Ynbal Landesman. Ynbal, who was diagnosed with ASPS in the summer of 2003, shortly after graduating from the Solomon Schechter Day School, where she was a classmate of Benji's. She has undergone extensive treatment at The Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Boston's Children's Hospital. Ynbal, her older sister, Hila, and her father, Yossi, and her Mom, Esther, all ride with our PMC team.
Our team goal is to raise at least $25,000 in pledges before the ride. While we start with our own pledges, we genuinely appreciate any level of support that you can provide as well.
Thank you for helping our friend Ynbal and others in their fight against cancer! Your gift at any level will help save lives.
Though I will be a "virtual rider" this year, I will still be part of Team ASPS. In the past eight years, we have has raised over $250,000 dedicated to finding a cure for Alveolar Soft Part Sarcoma (ASPS). This rare and insidious cancer hides in the muscle tissue of youngsters. Sadly, it usually goes undetected until it spreads to other vital organs.
