Why I Ride ...
Everyone knows someone who has fought cancer. Before I was born, my father battled cancer. My grandfathers both fought the fight before they passed away. In the past few years several of our close friends and family members have found themselves fighting cancer (this ride is dedicated to you - K.K, B.C, R.D, K.P, C.A, T.S, K.B, J.T, K.R, and others that are just not coming to mind right at this moment). It’s frustrating to watch them struggle and be unable to help. The PMC is one small thing I can do to help them, and the many, many others in similar situations.
I also have some very personal reasons to ride. A 200-mile bike ride is a great challenge and accomplishment in its own right. In my case it goes a bit further. As you may know, two years ago the state of Massachusetts declared me leg- ally blind. Since then, I've been unable to drive, but have otherwise managed to lead a normal life. Despite some additional challenges with navigation, and somehow man- aging to find every pothole on the road, I've been able to keep pedaling, and have even been able to step it up " as of this email I've ridden over 1,500 miles so far this year. Riding the PMC is a great way for me to show that being officially disabled doesn't mean you'll spend the rest of your days sitting on the couch watching the rest of the world pass you by.
Thanks for visiting, I ride in honor of you all on August 6th & 7th.
Cheers,
Chris
