Christina Lake's Ride

Why I Ride ...

Dear Family and Friends,
Next Saturday and Sunday, I will be riding in my fifth Pan Mass Challenge.  It has easily been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life completing 192 miles to help fight cancer.  During the ride, I am encouraged by fifty six teammates, fifty two hundred fellow riders, three thousand volunteers and thousands of supporters along the route cheering our team on with cow bells, music, and pom-poms.   Most inspiring are those who come simply to say thank you for riding.  Children on the side of the rode with signs saying, “I am 11 now because of you.  Thank you PMC riders,” and  “My heart beats because of your feet”.   These are the true heroes who made the biking feel easy as we covered all of those miles.

August 7th and 8th, is here already and I have been training hard and getting excited to be part of “Team Brent” again.  This year, I have been lucky  enough to do a few challenging rides, spending the week riding in the Alpes following the Tour de France and climbing above catagory climbs, as well as riding the 100 mile Connecticut Challenge ride that benefits cancer survivors for Yale and Childrens Hospital.

The Pan Mass Challenge benefits the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and 100% of the money raised goes to Cancer research.  One of the most important things to note about any and all donations made is that no amount is too small to make a difference.  I am lucky enough to ride for Team Brent and Brent McCreesh, an eight year old boy who was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma when he was 2.   Team Brent’s fundraising goes to Neuroblastoma research.  The first year of the ride, all of the money raised paid for research doctors who discovered a therapy to treat Neuroblastoma.  The second year, the money built a lead room where the children would be treated.   This past year the money paid for the treatment of children who had Neuroblastoma.  As riders, we all need to keep riding and fighting to make a difference.  Brent is living proof that we are capable of helping in so many ways in fact this year Brent hit his 5 year anniversary of being cancer free!   Thank you for supporting our team!

With your help and support we can all make a difference in the lives of so many people.  As a cancer survivor myself and having my mother, aunt, two grandmothers and unfortunately the list goes on... pass away from cancer, my life has been impacted tremendously from this hoffible disease.  That is why I do everything I can to do my part in helping raise money and awareness for my fight.  Therefore, I continue to ride for all those battling cancer, for Brent and the other children who have fought and are still fighting Neuroblastoma, and for all those who have lost loved ones to cancer.  Thank you in advance for your generosity and I promise to ride strong!

All my best,

Christina Lake
