Why I Ride ...

  2009 PMC......
 "A RIDE FOR DON"

"PAIN IS TEMPORARY, IT MAY LAST A MINUTE, OR AN HOUR OR A DAY OR A YEAR, BUT EVENTUALLY IT WILL SUBSIDE AND SOMETHING ELSE WILL TAKE ITS PLACE. IF I QUIT, HOWEVER, IT LASTS FOREVER" LANCE ARMSTRONG June 1, 2009 Today is a very joyful and special day for two dear friends. After 26 months of care at Children's Hospital and The Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Ann and John Shaw are celebrating their daughter Isabella's 10th birthday knowing her Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia is in remission!! It was John who suggested we participate in the PMC last year. As you may recall, last year I honored three other survivors who also received care at Dana Farber. My friend, Dick Barbo is as valiant as they come.  This January he underwent a critical bypass procedure and after several weeks of recovery has returned to work at his family's business. When speaking with his wife Deborah about the care Dick continues to receive at Dana Farber I can sense her profound appreciation and admiration for everyone there.          My Brother- in -law, Vincent Corsaro has just completed his first full year of teaching since his successful treatment for throat cancer. Over the summer months while continuing work at school, he'll be working on his golf game with his wife Cynthia and enjoying his new motorcycle. Great news, Vin-Man!! IN MEMORY OF DONALD THOMAS We all know the standard cliché, "There will never be another" Well, for those of us whose lives were blessed to have known Don, they are richer because of him. Don survived his brave battle against rare and aggressive Sino-Nasal Carcinoma. What a Man!! He pushed me in so many ways. In the spring of 1983 we were together in Sonoma California after learning of my mother's diagnosis of Multiple Myeloma.  After that trip I knew he was a friend for life. He was so enthusiastic when he learned I was riding in the PMC last year, we shared great times on his deck during my training rides. Sadly and unexpectedly Don passed away in January - far too soon. The smile you see above with his best friend and daughter, Jennifer says it all. "FULL OF LIFE" - "The important thing for us to remember is how much my Dad did love life and your ride and all the others riding goes a long way in raising funds to help thousands get better treatment and ultimately live their lives -  Yea!!!" And for love of life is why I ride again!  This year my pedal partner is Truro native Sean Bennett, my daughter Sara's boyfriend. After joining me on the final leg into P-Town last year he was bitten by the bug to ride the PMC this year. Together, we appreciate your support. Thank You!
