Betsy Scola's Ride

Why I Ride ...

When my then 15 year old daughter first came to me two years and said she wanted to do the Pan Mass Challenge, I have to admit that I tried to talk her out of it.  Not only would the ride be hard and in the middle of the summer, but the fund raising minimums sounded daunting.  But then I started thinking about how important this was to her and how I wanted to support her.  And then I started thinking about how much fun we could have training together.  And then I started thinking about all the parents and children who have died from cancer and how they would never be able to share something like this together.  And that's when it hit home for me.  Since then, one of my son's friend's mom died of cancer and I thought about how she would never be at his baseball games any more.  And then I went to a family member's funeral who died of cancer and I thought about how he wouldn't be going to his kids' high school graduations or musicals or weddings.  I feel so lucky that I can share these memories with my daughter and that we have each other.  I'm doing the Pan Mass Challenge so that the money we raise can help more parents and children have more time together to make special memories together.  Last year my 14 year old son joined us which made it even more special.  I'm so proud of my kids for wanting to do this.
