Jimmy Fund Patients Meet their Supporting Pan-Mass Challenge Cyclists

WHAT: Pediatric cancer patients from the Jimmy Fund Clinic at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) selected as PMC Pedal Partners will meet teams of cyclists riding in their honor during the 36th annual PMC. In its 15th year, the PMC Pedal Partner Program is sponsored by John Hancock. 

Pedal Partners, their families, and PMC riders will enjoy a fun and interactive morning of activities, including Silly Willy making balloon animals, face painters, pictures with a green screen, Kids Kicking Cancer exhibition, arts and crafts, tours of Fenway Park and a continental breakfast. 

The PMC is a192-mile bike-a-thon that has raised a total of $455 million for adult and pediatric patient care and cancer research at DFCI since 1980. It is the most successful single athletic fundraising event in the U.S., annually raising more money for charity than any other. On Aug. 1 and 2, more than 5,800 cyclists will ride up to 192 miles in the PMC with the goal of raising $45 million for the Jimmy Fund.  

WHO:J.D. Hale, a 14 year rider, will share his and Team Flames’ story of their involvement with the Pedal Partner program and their current Pedal Partner, Jack Grutchfield.  

On PMC weekend, Hale will be riding 192 miles from Sturbridge to Provincetown, along with the other 58 members of Team Flames; Louise Santosuosso, vice president of marketing at John Hancock; and Billy Starr, PMC founder and executive director.
