Coordinator Needed for 2012 PMC Newton-Needham-Brookline Kids Ride

Helping to raise funds for cancer research one mile at a time

NEWTON – The Pan Massachusetts Challenge seeks a coordinator for its PMC Newton-Needham-Brookline Kids Ride. Founded in 2006, the PMC Newton-Needham-Brookline Kids Ride is one of the 35 mini-bike-a-thons for kids, held in six states, that make up the PMC Kids Rides program. The PMC Newton-Needham-Brookline Kids Ride attracts more than 300 young cyclists each year and has raised $348,000 to support adult and pediatric cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

PMC Kids Ride coordinators are fully supported by PMC staff members who assist with event supplies, web support and media promotion. Coordinator responsibilities include event logistics, connecting with local businesses for sponsorship opportunities, attracting riders and arranging a safe and family-friendly day for the community. More than 6,000 children ages three to 15 participate in the PMC Kids Rides each year and collectively raise $1 million. The original PMC Kids Ride sprouted as a grassroots effort in 1998 when 13 children rode around their Medfield neighborhood 25 times and raised $1,600 for the PMC. Throughout the past 13 years, PMC Kids Rides have continued to form throughoutNew Englandand beyond as parents and children invite neighbors with tricycles, training wheels, and two-wheelers to get involved. Any individual or group interested in organizing the 2012 PMC Newton-Needham-Brookline Kids Ride should contact Sarah Mercurio at sarahmerc@pmc.org or 781-449-5300 x305 for more information and visit http://kids.pmc.org.
