Guest post by Paula Farina Pollis

Little did my sister know that her vision to finish college and manage her family’s bike shop would later help her brother, her family, thousands of cyclists and of course the PMC and its mission to cure cancer.  This story is not about why I PMC.  It’s about why we, the Farina Family, PMC.

I first started riding in the Pan-Mass Challenge in 1997.  I was riding to support one of my best friends and roommate at the time, whose father had died of cancer earlier that year.  I had not ridden a bike in about 10 years and the bike I had was 5 years older than that. I honestly did not know much about the PMC in 1997, but looking back at it, I quickly realized that that the PMC Weekend was about one thing: People!

On May 25th, 2017 Dana-Farber Cancer Institute President and CEO, Dr. Laurie Glimcher and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Josh Bekenstein hosted a dinner at Dana-Farber for Pan-Mass Challenge professional and head staff in appreciation for their efforts. (Both Laurie and Josh are PMC riders)

Commit- you’ll figure it out!

If you told me on March 27th, 2016 that in four months I would embark on a two-day journey that consisted of 192 miles on a bicycle- I would laugh in your face. I didn’t even own a bicycle!

WHY I PMC guest blog by Kaye Ceille

In addition to this being a long standing tradition at Zipcar, like most others, it’s the personal connection and quest to find a cure.
