Pan-Mass Challenge Welcomes Cigna as 2017 Official Health Service Company
NEEDHAM, Mass. (July 11, 2017) - The Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC) is pleased to announce that Cigna (NYSE: CI) has signed on as the official health service company for 2017. As part of its sponsorship, Cigna staff will be onsite at the Health and Wellness Expo at Babson College on Friday, August 4, to talk to individuals about the importance of preventive care and offer tips for health improvement. Cigna employees will participate during PMC weekend by riding and volunteering their time in various roles along the routes.
"We are thrilled to sponsor the Pan-Mass Challenge, a premier event that does extraordinary work raising funds to advance cancer treatment and research," said Mark Butler, president of Cigna's New England market. "This is an excellent opportunity for Cigna and our employees to help build healthy communities here in Boston and throughout Massachusetts."
“We are very excited to welcome Cigna to the PMC family,” says Billy Starr, PMC founder and executive director. “Health and wellness are incredibly important to our riders and volunteers and we thank Cigna for their commitment to bettering our community, and for their participation both on and off the road during PMC ride weekend. It’s partners like Cigna that truly help the PMC and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute get closer by the mile in our mission to one day eradicate cancer.”
The PMC is the nation’s most successful athletic fundraising event, raising and contributing more money to charity than any other. Set for August 5 and 6, 2017, the PMC will draw more than 6,200 cyclists and 4,000 volunteers to the two-day bike-a-thon with the goal of raising $48 million to support patient care and cancer research at Dana-Farber. One hundred percent of every rider-raised dollar goes directly to the cause. If accomplished, this fundraising goal will bring the organization’s 38-year contribution to more than $595 million. The PMC is Dana-Farber’s largest single contributor, raising more than 52 percent of the Jimmy Fund’s annual revenue.
About The Pan-Mass Challenge
The Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC) is an annual bike-a-thon that has raised more money for charity than any other single athletic fundraising event in the world. The PMC was founded in 1980 by Billy Starr, who remains the event’s executive director, an annual cyclist, and a fundraiser. The PMC has since raised $547 million for adult and pediatric patient care and cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through the Jimmy Fund. The event donates 100 percent of every rider-raised dollar directly to the cause. The PMC generates more than 52 percent of the Jimmy Fund’s annual revenue and is Dana-Farber’s single largest contributor. The PMC has successfully melded support from committed cyclists, volunteers, corporate sponsors and individual contributors. All are essential to the PMC's goal and model: to attain maximum fundraising efficiency while increasing its annual gift. The PMC’s hope and aspiration is to provide Dana-Farber's doctors and researchers with the necessary resources to discover cures for all cancers.
