6,000+ Cyclists to Ride in 2015 Pan-Mass Challenge

 MEDIA ADVISORY

6,000 Cyclists to Ride in 2015 Pan-Mass Challenge

Governor Charlie Baker and Mayor Marty Walsh to Participate and Share Opening Remarks

WHAT:On Aug. 1 and 2, more than 6,000 cyclists will participate in the Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC), riding up to 192 miles with the goal of raising $45 million for the Jimmy Fund, bringing the PMC’s 35-year fundraising total to a half billion dollars. All riders are committed to raising between $500 and $5,000, with 100 percent of every rider raised dollar going directly to patient care and cancer research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through the Jimmy Fund. A remarkable total of 3,500 volunteers will donate their team to ride weekend this year, and over 600 of all riders and volunteers are cancer survivors – “Living Proof” of the PMC spirit and mission to find a cure for cancer. Many teams ride in honor of their PMC Pedal Partners, pediatric cancer patients at the Jimmy Fund Clinic whose treatments are supported by the funds the PMC contributes year after year. Teams meet their PMC Pedal Partners at the Lakeville, MA water stop, sponsored by John Hancock – a truly remarkable reunion for riders as they cycle across the state in the hopes of one day finding a cure.

WHO:Riders ranging in age from 13 to 82, from rookies to seasoned veterans, will be joined by Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker and Boston City Mayor Marty Walsh to participate in one of 12 routes of varying mileage across Massachusetts. Both the Governor and the Mayor will also be participating in Opening Ceremonies in Babson on Sunday morning, August 2, sharing opening remarks for riders beginning their journeys.
