Pan-Mass Challenge Announces MAPFRE Insurance as Official Auto Insurance Provider and Lunch Stop Sponsor

NEEDHAM, Mass.  – The Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC) is pleased to announce MAPFRE Insurance as the PMC’s official auto insurance provider.  All 6,000 cyclists who ride in this challenge to support cancer care and research will have the MAPFRE Insurance logo on their PMC 2015 official jersey.  In addition, on Saturday, August 1, MAPFRE will be sponsoring the PMC’s lunch stop at Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School, where cyclists will stop to refuel after riding up to 70 miles of their entire journey.

“We are thrilled to have MAPFRE as the official auto insurance provider and lunch stop sponsor of the PMC this year,” says Billy Starr, PMC Founder and Executive Director. “And it’s always great  to see our sponsors involved by participating in the event in addition to their sponsorship.  MAPFRE has employees and independent insurance agents who are fundraising and riding in the PMC, not to mention a number of employees volunteering at the lunch stop.

MAPFRE provides customers with a full range of insurance products, including coverage for automobiles, homes, motorcycles, watercraft and businesses, as well as term life insurance. As a proud supporter of the PMC, MAPFRE strives to provide participants and volunteers on ride weekend with the same care and attention MAPFRE provides for its customers.

"The Pan-Mass Challenge is about people. It's about teamwork, support; dedication and hope," said Jaime Tamayo, President and CEO of MAPFRE North America. "MAPFRE Insurance has employees, customers and business partners taking part in the Challenge; riding to take care of people. We are people who take care of people. Being the Official Auto Insurer of the PMC is a privilege and MAPFRE is proud to be a part of this very special and important event."

Set to take place on Aug. 1 and 2, the PMC is the largest single athletic fundraising event in the country. Since 1980, the PMC has raised $455 million for the Jimmy Fund, which supports adult and pediatric patient care and cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI). In 2014, more than 5,500 cyclists raised a record $41 million for DFCI – 100 percent of every rider-raised dollar going directly to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. In 2015, the PMC aims to raise $45 million, which will bring the organization’s fundraising total since its inception to a half billion dollars.

About the Pan-Mass Challenge
The Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC) is an annual bike-a-thon that today raised more money for charity than any other single athletic fundraising event in the world. The PMC was founded in 1980 by Billy Starr, who remains the event’s executive director, an annual cyclist, and a fundraiser. The PMC has since raised $455 million for adult and pediatric patient care and cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through the Jimmy Fund. The event donates 100 percent of every rider-raised dollar directly to the cause. The PMC generates more than 50 percent of the Jimmy Fund’s annual revenue and is Dana-Farber’s single largest contributor. The PMC has successfully melded support from committed cyclists, volunteers, corporate sponsors and individual contributors. All are essential to the PMC's goal and model: to attain maximum fundraising efficiency while increasing its annual gift. The PMC’s hope and aspiration is to provide Dana-Farber's doctors and researchers with the necessary resources to discover cures for all cancers.
