Harpoon Toasts to the Pan-Mass Challenge with Limited Release Golden Ale

Official Beer of the PMC, Harpoon 192, Now Available

NEEDHAM, Mass. June 18, 2015 – The Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC) is pleased to partner with Harpoon Brewery to introduce the official beer of the PMC, Harpoon 192. For every bottle and pint sold, Harpoon Helps will make a one dollar donation to the PMC which donates 100 percent of every rider raised dollar to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through the Jimmy Fund in Boston.

Named for the total mileage of the original PMC route from Sturbridge to Provincetown, Harpoon 192 was crafted by Harpoon brewer and longtime PMC rider Jaime Schier with the end of the ride in mind. Harpoon 192 is an American interpretation of the traditional Kölsch style. The perfect post-ride beer is a medium-bodied golden ale with an assertive hop character and just a hint of citrus.

“Harpoon 192 serves as a toast to the riders, volunteers, PMC staff, and all who make this incredible ride happen each year,” said Schier. “I ride in part to honor a friend, whose friendship I wish I would have made more of when I had the chance. The other major motivating factor for me is the mission of the PMC and all the people who will never have to be sick or hurt as a result of cancer.”

On August 1 and 2, Schier will join 6,000 PMC cyclists riding up to 192 miles in an effort to raise $45 million for Dana-Farber, helping to bring the PMC’s 35-year fundraising total to a half billion dollars. Schier will ride as part of Team FORZA-G to honor friends and family lost to cancer.

“Since 1998, Harpoon has been an intricate part of the PMC family,” said Billy Starr, PMC Founder and Executive Director. “From raising a pint to a good ride weekend in Sturbridge to being a saving grace for tired cyclists and volunteers as they recharge their batteries at Mass Maritime Academy, Bourne and in Provincetown, we thank Harpoon and all that they do to help us achieve our mission.”

Harpoon 192 is available on draft at Harpoon’s breweries in Boston, MA and Windsor, VT and will be available for purchase in 22 oz. bottles at select retailers throughout the state of Massachusetts. Harpoon 192 is a limited batch beer, available while supplies last. Use the Beer Finder to find Harpoon 192 at select retailers.

About the Pan-Mass Challenge

The Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC) is an annual bike-a-thon that today raised more money for charity than any other single athletic fundraising event in the world. The PMC was founded in 1980 by Billy Starr, who remains the event’s executive director, an annual cyclist, and a fundraiser. The PMC has since raised $455 million for adult and pediatric patient care and cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through the Jimmy Fund. The event donates 100 percent of every rider-raised dollar directly to the cause. The PMC generates more than 50 percent of the Jimmy Fund’s annual revenue and is Dana-Farber’s single largest contributor. The PMC has successfully melded support from committed cyclists, volunteers, corporate sponsors and individual contributors. All are essential to the PMC's goal and model: to attain maximum fundraising efficiency while increasing its annual gift. The PMC’s hope and aspiration is to provide Dana-Farber's doctors and researchers with the necessary resources to discover cures for all cancers.
