PwC to Sponsor Pan-Mass Challenge for Fourth Year
Largest Corporate Rider Team and Babson Hub Sponsor to Increase Impact in 2014
NEEDHAM, Mass. (July 9, 2014) – The Pan-Mass Challenge is pleased to announce that PricewaterhouseCoopers US (PwC) signed on again as the 2014 Babson Hub sponsor. In addition to sponsorship, PwC will also support the largest corporate rider team in PMC history and plans to cross the $1 million threshold in funds raised cumulatively over the past four years.
The PMC is the nation’s most successful athletic fundraising event, raising and contribution more money to charity than any other. Set for August 2 and 3, the PMC will draw nearly 10,000 cyclists and volunteers to the two-day bike-a-thon. Together, they will work to raise a record goal of $40 million for adult and pediatric patient care and cancer research Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) and the Jimmy Fund. In the past 34 years, the PMC has contributed $414 million to DFCI.
“I couldn’t be more pleased witnessing how PwC has embraced the PMC,” says Billy Starr, PMC founder and executive director. “With more than 100 riders and, perhaps, thousands of company members sponsoring those riders, they have taken our mission to heart and made it a part of their corporate culture. Through my lens, they are demonstrating to other large companies the power and well-being of the PMC.”
Fifty PwC partners and staff also serve as volunteers to support all aspects of PMC weekend.
“Being a part of the PMC as a corporate sponsor and a rider is incredibly fulfilling,” says John Farina, fourth year PMC Rider and PwC’s Boston Tax Leader. “PwC partners and staff have truly embraced the PMC and I’m proud of and inspired by our commitment to riding, volunteering and fundraising.”
About the Pan-Mass Challenge
The Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC) is an annual bike-a-thon that today raises more money for charity than any other single athletic fundraising event in the world. The PMC was founded in 1980 by Billy Starr, who remains the event’s executive director, an annual cyclist, and a fundraiser. The PMC has since raised $414 million for adult and pediatric patient care and cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through the Jimmy Fund. The event donates 100 percent of every rider-raised dollar directly to the cause. In 2013, the PMC generated more than 50 percent of the Jimmy Fund’s annual revenue and was Dana-Farber’s single largest contributor. In 2014, PMC cyclists will ride with the goal of raising $40 million. The PMC has successfully melded support from committed cyclists, volunteers, corporate sponsors and individual contributors. All are essential to the PMC's goal and model: to attain maximum fundraising efficiency while increasing its annual gift. The PMC’s hope and aspiration is to provide Dana-Farber's doctors and researchers with the necessary resources to discover cures for all cancers.
