Pan-Mass Challenge and DuVine Cycling + Adventure Company continue their ride together
The 35th annual PMC, set for Aug. 2 and 3, is the largest single athletic fundraising event in the country. Since 1980, the PMC has raised more than $414 million for the Jimmy Fund, which supports adult and pediatric patient care and cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. This year, more than 5,500 cyclists will ride to raise $40 million. The PMC contributes 100 percent of every rider-raised dollar directly to the Jimmy Fund.
As the official bike tour operator of the PMC, there are many ways in which DuVine is supporting the event. At the PMC’s hub site at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy (MMA) in Bourne, Mass., which serves as both a starting and finish line, cyclists will have the opportunity to recharge their bodies, and be treated to wine and cheese, in the Après Vélo Lounge.
The company, known for its beautiful, well-guided, and luxurious biking tours around the world, has been a PMC supporter for years. DuVine donates the proceeds from its PMC-related tours back to the non-profit. In Sept., the company will lead cyclists on a week-long tour through Croatia.
“Participating in the PMC as both a corporate sponsor and a rider has been overwhelmingly rewarding,” says Andy Levine, DuVine president and founder, who has been a PMC cyclist for the past five years. “Our company is here to create beautiful and exciting experiences for people and being able to give back to our community makes the overall DuVine adventure more meaningful.”
About the Pan-Mass Challenge
The Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC) is an annual bike-a-thon that today raises more money for charity than any other single athletic fundraising event in the country. The PMC was founded in 1980 by Billy Starr, who remains the event’s executive director, an annual cyclist, and a fundraiser. The PMC has since raised $414 million for adult and pediatric patient care and cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through the Jimmy Fund. In 2014, PMC cyclists will ride with the goal of raising $40 million. The event donates 100 percent of every rider-raised dollar directly to the cause. In 2013, the PMC generated more than 50 percent of the Jimmy Fund’s annual revenue and was Dana-Farber’s single largest contributor. Cyclists can choose between 12 routes that range from 25 to 190 miles. The PMC has successfully melded support from committed cyclists, volunteers, corporate sponsors and individual contributors. All are essential to the PMC's goal and model: to attain maximum fundraising efficiency while increasing its annual gift. The PMC’s hope and aspiration is to provide Dana-Farber’s doctors and researchers with the necessary resources to discover cures for all cancers.
